are distributed to local charities. Nearly 400 donors and volunteers support the activities of GHCOP. We have an active board that oversees all our activities and we are always looking for additional volunteers and board members.  GHCOP raised nearly $500,000 in the 2018-2019 season  and since our founding, has raised over $5.0 million.  We have no paid employees and 100% of each donor’s contribution goes to support a local charity.

Our Philanthropy Committee is made up of over 32 volunteers who review all grant requests from grantees and who arrange visits with management of each applicant.  Financial Analysts support this review with a detailed financial analysis of each application.  All of our grants are made to 501 (C) 3 charities providing needed services in Indian River County. During the last season, the GHCOP Board approved 37 grants totaling $419,044 and our Evening of Giving program in November generated $28,000 for gifts to 14 local charities.  The county has 5 designated pockets of poverty and we focus, though not exclusively, on the Gifford community.

Invitations to apply for a grant are sent out in early September, with grant applications due back by mid October.  Our site teams meet with each applicant from November to mid February and our Board meets in early March to decide on all grant recommendations from the Philanthropy Committee.  Grant Agreements and checks are typically given to the approved agencies in late March and early April.

The Philanthropy Committee provides volunteers an opportunity to meet and work with other Grand Harbor members and to be a part of a team that recommends grants to help address the needs of at-risk residents in the county.

We welcome volunteers to work on the Philanthropy Committee, support one of our fun events, provide specific skills as a Board member and join our list of  committed donors.  Donations can be made on line by clicking How To Give  (see below) by using your credit card or by check to Grand Harbor Community Outreach Program, Inc., P.O. Box 644017, Vero Beach, FL 32964 or with a tax free contribution of securities (call our Treasurer, Ed Churney, for details , 908-770-6077).

The Philanthropy Committee has the responsibility to conduct a review of all grant applications including a financial review and conduct an on-site meeting with agency management. The committee then recommends a level of funding for Board consideration. The approved grants support programs in Indian River County that address needs of our at-risk residents.

The committee is headed by Liz Crowther, VP of Philanthropy and Co-Chaired by Kathy Tonkel.

The Philanthropy Committee consists of about 32 site volunteers organized into teams with a captain. Financial analysts also review all the financial information required in the application. Last season the committee approved grants to 37 non-profit agencies serving residents in IRC (For details click on "GRANTS" above). Below are examples of grants, one in each of the three major categories :

Annual Fund

The Annual Fund Campaign is the major source of funds for the Outreach effort each season.  Every October we mail a solicitation letter to the residents of Grand Harbor.  Last season, 2018 - 2019, we raised $282,000 from individual donors.

We hold four fundraising events each season: The Evening of Giving, Gala Dinner & Live Auction, Bridge and Majhong Luncheon,  and our Golf Classic.  For details please see below.

Corporate Sponsors

Each season we have a number of generous sponsors from various local businesses.  These funds cover all of our administrative and event expenses, so that 100% of our individual's contributions go directly to area non-profit programs. Please see page on "SPONSORS" for details.
