GRAND HARBOR
COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM
is an all-volunteer organization operating as a 501 (C) (3) non-profit charity,
founded in 2001. Through a direct appeal to Grand Harbor members and residents,
solicitation of corporate sponsorships and hosting several major events, we raise funds which

are distributed to local charities. Nearly 400 donors and volunteers support the activities of GHCOP. We have an active board that oversees all our activities and we are always looking for additional volunteers and board members. GHCOP raised nearly $500,000 in the 2017-2018 season and since our founding, has raised over $4.0 million. We have no paid employees and 100% of each donor’s contribution goes to support a local charity.
Our Philanthropy Committee is made up of over 32 volunteers who review all grant requests from grantees and who arrange visits with management of each applicant. Financial Analysts support this review with a detailed financial analysis of each application. All of our grants are made to 501 (C) 3 charities providing needed services in Indian River County. During the last season, the GHCOP Board approved 34 grants totaling $410,150 and our Evening of Giving program in November generated $28,000 for gifts to 14 local charities. The county has 5 designated pockets of poverty and we focus, though not exclusively, on the Gifford community.
Invitations to apply for a grant are sent out in early September, with grant applications due back by mid October. Our site teams meet with each applicant from early December to mid February and our Board meets in early March to decide on all grant recommendations from the Philanthropy Committee. Grant Agreements and checks are typically given to the approved agencies in late March and early April.
The Philanthropy Committee provides volunteers an opportunity to meet and work with other Grand Harbor members and to be a part of a team that recommends grants to help address the needs of at-risk residents in the county.

PHILANTHROPY
The Philanthropy Committee has the responsibility to conduct a review of all grant applications including a financial review and conduct an on-site meeting with agency management. The committee then recommends a level of funding for Board consideration. The approved grants support programs in Indian River County that address needs of our at-risk residents.
The committee is headed by Liz Crowther, VP of Philanthropy and Co-Chaired by Kathy Tonkel.
The Philanthropy Committee consists of about 32 site volunteers organized into four teams with a captain. Four financial analysts also review all the financial information required in the application. Last season the committee approved grants to 34 non-profit agencies serving residents in IRC (For details click on "GRANTS" above). We hold four fundraising events each season: The Evening of Giving, Gala Dinner & Live Auction, Bridge and Majhong Luncheon, and our Golf Classic. For details please see below.

THANK YOU
The Grand Harbor Community Outreach Program is staffed entirely by volunteers, some of whom are on the GHCOP Board for one or two years. Many work year after year on committees such as Philanthropy. Some work on a single event and some on several during one season. More than 100 Grand Harbor residents and members contribute their time and talents to making a successful Outreach Program.
The following highlights our committee members, but we would also like to thank the dozens of volunteers who work behind the scenes supporting our special events and our various other activities throughout the year. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact one of our board members.
Many of the community agencies that Grand Harbor Community Outreach partners with and financially supports have a continuing need for volunteers. To aid them in their efforts, we have compiled a list of currrent volunteer opportunities. PLEASE CLICK ON "VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES" above. You may also obtain a copy of the list at the Grand Harbor clubhouse lobby. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the agencies directly.
